And the lucky winner is...

I received some really fantastic suggestions for blog posts in the recent t-shirt contest… I’d love to respond to more than just the winning entry, so no promises, but if I’m able I’ll get some goodies out to those of you whose suggestions I use on the blog. I’ve put them all into the “Skribit” list over there to the right (just under the ad with the girl in the tight pink t-shirt for so that you can vote on which topics you’d like to see (and feel free to add more suggestions through that widget — it ate a couple of the suggestions I just pasted in, so resubmit if yours isn’t showing up).

Before I announce the winner…

the “how to meet/impress climber boys/girls” post requests crack me up, but they came in both in public and via email from the shy ones in the bunch, so I guess it’s something climbers still want to read about. Poor Majka thought she’d cornered the market on turning Climbing into Cosmo… but it sounds like there are still questions to be answered. That should be fun, sometime.

Anyway… the lucky winner from this first round is… drumroll please… Darren, in Calgary, AB who will have some say in his t-shirt choice, but who will have the option of a specially-designed “I climb rocks” shirt with one of my Red Rock photos on it to make up for his recent rainy trip to Red Rock, NV. The whole of Darren’s suggestion was:

Recently, I ran into a couple that had been dating for a long time. They were both solid climbers, they met while climbing and took it from there (almost 8 years ago)! I met them while they were on a climbing trip, living in a van and eating out of a cooler (day 3 of 15). I thought that it was one of the sweetest dates / vacations.

So. Question is – What would be your top 3 things to have an awesome climbing trip? Where would you go?

It was super tough to pick a winner, but Darren won by a nose, when I re-read all the submissions this morning. Just this weekend I re-set my sights on getting in a trip before the end of January, so responding to Darren’s question will give me an opportunity to think through how to make my upcoming trip the best ever. Stay tuned to hear Darren’s questions answered, as soon as I get a chance to sit down and write.

Thank you, all, and I look forward to your suggestions, and to responding to them, in the future!
