The women of climbing have been busy. Here are a few quick hot flashes from around the climbing blogosphere…
Natalya Gros fires off another 8c redpoint, from UKClimbing.com:
UKC News – March 2008: “2007 World Cup winner Natalya Gros has redpointed Histerija 8c at Misja Pec in Slovenia. Natalya came 1st in the 2007 World Cup leading competition and 3rd in the bouldering World Cup. She has previously climbed 8c with an ascent of Strelovod also at Misja Pec in 2006.”
And, more on Natalya from Climbing.com:
Slovenian Woman Climbs 5.14c: “The 23-year-old Slovenian woman began working on the route late last fall but had to stop for winter; she returned to the climb at the beginning of March.”
Charlotte Durif’s latest accomplishment, from UKClimbing.com:
UKC News – March 2008: “Charlotte Durif has onsighted Leon F8b at Les Concluses. Charlotte is 17 years old and has onsighted seven 8b’s and thirty two 8a ‘s.”
Finally, a little closer to home, the Seattle Times published an article yesterday about rock climbing. It’s a good general introduction to the sport and the culture, intended for not-yet-climbers, and focusing on the Everett Vertical World location. See the article here.
Closest to home, no news. It looks like we may not make it outside this weekend after all, which is a bit of a bummer since we have friends headed out all over the place. I’m not crazy about being a grown-up right now, and not getting to participate in spring break like all of our friends. We’re looking forward to a Smith weekend in a few weeks, so all is not lost… and we have been having a lot of fun in the climbing gym, so I really have nothing to complain about.
Thanks for reading… have fun on your various spring break trips, and climb safe! Where are YOU going for spring break?
