Labor day weekend is fast approaching, thank goodness. It looks like the trip for Tieton is shaping up… Kari and I are heading down Friday night, then a whole herd of boys (and Teresa) are coming out on Saturday. We’ll climb Saturday at Royal Columns, I think, then we’ve got a tick list at South Fork and Lava Point, so hopefully it will be a good weekend. I still need to pick up a snake bite kit, and it will be an adventure since none of us have extensive Tieton experience… I’ve just been there two climbing days, and only to Royal Columns, so we’ll hope to cover some new territory.
After a lengthy hiatus from the gym, I climbed last night and had a blast… warmed up then got on lead and climbed hard (mostly 10b and 10c) and then dispatched a climb at my max on lead, a 10d (although, I’d say this particular 10d was a bit soft). It was fun. I had to pace myself, watch my breathing, move efficiently, and make good choices… there were a few twitchy moments but I had a great belayer, so I wasn’t worried if I did take a fall. We both climbed hard (I was climbing with Don, who’d just picked up a brand new gym lead rope, and between the two of us we gave it a good “break in” for sure). I’m feeling strong, and good, this morning… I’m looking forward to pushing myself a little bit this weekend.
But, now, work calls. For those of you who are early departing for the holiday, enjoy, drive safe, and climb smart!
